Who is this?
Me with my flock.
Hi, I'm Ads, a lover of all things design, nerdom, and bizarre.
I hold a BA and MA in Games Design, graduating from University of Central Lancashire some 6 years ago. Since graduating I've continued studying as if my MA never ended. I've spent that time; learning Unreal Engine 4/5, giving 3D modelling a go, developing tiny games, and in the last 2 years I’ve focussed my energy into developing my skills as a level designer.
Since completing my MA I’ve worked in print artworking, graphic design and taken on the odd illustration gig. For a while I worked in a managerial capacity as the lead in a design/print environment. In the last 6 months I took a part-time job so I have more time to pour into building up my portfolio towards a dream career move. I relocated to the Manchester recently and I am now ready to start going after my first Games Industry Level Designer role.
My CV is provided below.
Why Level Design?
Because…
It combines; telling stories, psychological weaving, technical thinking, crafting fantastical worlds, fabricating unique experiences, using artistic skills, and architectural design. It's like being a screen writer + ghost train builder + playground designer + illusionist + puppet master all in one. It ticks all the right boxes to keep my brain busy and satisfied.
It’s a super broad discipline and that’s exactly what I like. I love always having something new to learn; whether it’s a piece of software, a way of thinking, a skillset, or delving into a totally new subject. After having lots of time to try various specialisations in Game Dev I’ve never been happier than when working on Level Design projects.
